Spring update from Northern Light

This month seen a fantastic few days exhibiting at Aquaculture UK, it was great to catch up with industry friends old and new, we hope everyone had a good show in sunny Aviemore!

The biggest congratulations to Sarah Riddle on her surprise award! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘ Sarah won the Judges Special Recognition award at this years Aquaculture Awards.

We also enjoyed hearing some feedback on our new branding and are delighted that it seemed to go down a treat!

This month has seen us make good progress with existing projects and commence a number of exciting new ones.

Sarah has begun her a new project with Salmon Scotland in a community consultant role.  This will see us mapping local valued community businesses who work with key Salmon Scotland members to understand their engagement and activity plans for the year and overlay a plan where Salmon Scotland would drive additional value as a collective collaborative voice.

This role is to also establish and maintain relationships with local communities and local politicians who interact with the organisation's activities i.e. individual ambassadors picking up key contacts based on location. Sarah is looking forward to working on this and if you have any ideas fancy a chat do get in touch; communities@salmonscotland.co.uk.

Mairi has commenced a project with Caol Community Council to produce a Local Place Plan. A Local Place Plan gives the people of Caol the opportunity to shape an agenda for the future. Ensuring community funding is spent on the areas they feel is key to prospering the community.

Local Place Plans were introduced by the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019, which contains a new right for communities to produce their own plans as part of the new Scottish planning system. Local Place Plans contain the communityโ€™s proposals for the development and use of land and provide a new opportunity for communities to feed into the planning system with ideas and proposals.  We will shortly begin a period of engagement with the community โ€“ we cant wait to get started!

Our team are currently on working projects in diverse locations ranging from โ€œacross the road from our officeโ€ to Applecross, Alness, Argyll, Dumfries and Stirling.  Last week we added Normandie in France to that list where we are helping to set up a salmon incubation unit and hatchery in a former freshwater trout farm.

This month also saw us complete and submit applications on behalf of our clients for the next round of Marine Fund Scotland. This is an exciting time for our clients and if successful can unlock funds to progress to the next stage. Over the last 5 years we have secured over ยฃ12million in funding for our clients in a whole variety of sectors. Get in touch if you have an idea we may be able to help make a reality!

As we enter the summer we are looking to hire a project manager to join the team โ€“ if this is something you think may be of interest or you would like to find out more please get in touch!
