The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility of the potential reinstatement of a functioning fish market at Macduff Harbour, on behalf of Aberdeenshire Council.
It all starts with an idea
The output of this work was a detailed feasibility study and business plan which was successfully used to justify grant funding from Marine Fund Scotland to expand chiller facilities and support the establishment of a Steering Group to develop the project further.

Scope of Works
The aim of the study was to establish a plan to improve the long-term sustainability of the harbour. In order to identify opportunities for economic growth an options appraisal and feasibility study was undertaken to ascertain if introduction of an electronic market would be successful in a small rural harbour.
Scope of works included:
Consulting multiple stakeholders to establish the wants and needs of potential users
Researching and consulting with regulators, statutory bodies, and stakeholders to understand required standards, regulations, and permissions
Condition survey of the existing fish market and harbour buildings and infrastructure, and cost estimates for the remedial works and improvements required
Identifying potential routes to market
Completing options appraisal to evaluate alternate scenarios for the potential fish market
Reviewing potential ownership and governance arrangements
Completing a high-level environmental impact assessment
Identifying potential barriers to success
Preparing financial projections
Completing economic impact assessment and cost/benefit analysis
